think i posted this in wrong place first time....under tools

Well,l I have installed a inter cooler on my Husky 60Gal.,230v, 3.7 amp compressor. The Cooler Fan I am using is 110v,2 amp..http://www.farnell.com/datasheets/4011.pdf
My question is this.. How can I set it up so the Fan will run when the compressor runs ?
1) I would love to find a Pressure Switch that has 2 sets of contacts (independent) so I can wire the Motor and the Fan.
2) maybe some type of Relay ? I guess the coil would have to be 230v ?

Note I have 110v close to compressor if I need to pull from it
Any help would be great

Buy a 240v fan and terminate the fan wires on the same side of the pressure switch as the compressor motor.

if you have a neutral wire or can run one from the panel then all you need is to tie into one leg of the switch and the neutral. And ground it.

I'd be temped to run a completely separate 110 circuit to the fan using a temperature switch on the intercooler.

That would eliminate any concerns about equipment grounding, relay overload and/or unbalanced loads and the fan would only run when it's needed.

I wired mine the way Rookie 2 said. I mounted the fan in the wall as an exhaust fan, built a 4' x 4' room around the compressor, insulated the room with mineral wool sound deadening insulation, and installed a 20 x 20 x 2" pleated furnace filter in the door. The fan ***** clean air into the room so the compressor is using cleaner air, the compressor filter stays clean for a looong time, and I don't have dust all over the cooling fins.

Well my set up is like this..post # 82 http://garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=50946&page=5 his is a 230v motor on fan mine is 110v..and no I looked for 3 months just to find this one on FLEBAY..not getting a 230v one
the inlet temp will be around 330 F outlet about 5 F above ambient (I hope)
So I like the idea of just pulling off one of the legs of the motor..but I want it to be in code...I figure a inline 5 amp fuse maybe ?? just not sure how the wiring would go

you can work around that if you have 110v want to use a relay.....
fan draws min amps, just get a solid state relay that can be turned on from 3-32v DC and rated for 240 / 120 say 10 amp?? it's going for $5 I think. in Ebay.
Take you favorite unused phone charger that is capable of 110/220v most do, and nicely hook it up to the compressor pressure switch same line as your motor..... with fuse?
when pressure is call , it runs ,your phone charger that is 220v capable and the compressor motor. Charger output 5v drives your Solid State Relay, relay turns on fan that is plug into your 110v outlet.... put it nicely in a NEMA approve box......

would this be code compliance at this point? since you are not putting any unbalance to any of the hot legs off the compressor at this point. A hack if you make it look ugly, a solution if you make it pretty.

I have seen these switch boxes w multi contacts wired one of 2 ways switching neutral only and switching both both serious worked if u understand how to use a meter see if the contacts are independent u should be able to use one side to switch neutral on each I would get a box rated for double the amps u have if u do this because u will be running the 220 hi amp draw across only one of 2 contacts or tee the plumbing and run 2 switch boxes in my opinion safer
FYI when these fail (worn contacts ) the contacts weld each other together always a good reason to shut off my compressor ran for a week non stop once when contacts wore out blow off valve saved it and it still runs great 5 years later
