Compressor Tank Rust-Thru - Options?

Well, the tank on my 25-year-old compressor has gotten pinhole leaks in it from rust-through. Unfortunately replacement tanks are no longer available for it. Do I have any options short of buying a new compressor? The only thought I had was buying a cheap Horror Freight unit and putting my pump and motor on it. I rebuilt the pump a couple years ago and replaced the pressure switch and regulator less than three months ago, so I hate to just scrap the whole thing. Any other ideas?

McMaster sells new tanks, I'm sure Grainger does as well, a local store would save you shipping costs.

Craigslist is your best bet. I've seen used tank only adds numerous times. There's a guy about 2 hours from me that's selling a used 60 gallon for less than a hundred. I'd buy it, but I have no room for one in my single car garage.

What size tank are you looking for? A 60 gallon upright, a 20 gallon portable????

It's a 20 gallon Campbell Hausfeld, but if I'm getting a new tank I'd like to change to an upright.

I'm having the same issues with my old tank. On moving to an upright, make sure your pump can handle the bigger tank (if it is bigger...). Good luck and post up if you find a good deal on a tank. Thanks.

I've seen replacement CH 20 gallon tanks for about $150 + shipping. Usually Jack's small engines is the lowest price, but once you find the part # and google it should pop up at all the various places.

I've been searching for a replacement for my sandborn. I welded a pinhole once, then the other side started leaking with another pinhole. Decided it was time to replace the tank. I got the pump and everything off, just haven't ordered a new one yet. I've also been looking on CL and pawn shops, I only spent $100 at a pawn shop many many years ago on this one so I don't want to shell out a ton of money.

Look into discarded, out of date propane tanks. Now that portable tanks have to be re-certified every five years or so, getting old ones is a breeze. Vent it out, drop in some dry ice to purge it and it will be cheap and serve you well. If you were in the northern California area, I'd give you one of the two tall tanks sitting next to my storage container.

Well I found a 26 gallon Kobalt upright on Craigslist with a burned out motor. I haven't heard anything back from the seller yet, but if it's the model I think it is it will probably work just fine. He's asking $80. Stay tuned...

Heck I thought maybe you needed a 60 gal. I called campbell-Haudfeld and priced a 60 gal upright tank and it was 247.90 plus shiping to kansas. Shiping was 141.00! :scared: Maybe call Campbell-Hausfeld and get a price on you 20 gal. Make sure you have a model number. There number is 1 800 543 6400. I just reread your post about it being no longer available. Ask them if there is a tank available your size for another model.
