When they say "oil-less" don't they really mean it has oil, but you shouldn't ever need to add any? I mean, it doesn't seem possible for it to be truly oilless, and I wouldn't expect it to stay in the bearing indefinitely, or not have suspended a bunch of material in the oil after a while.. Just wondering.

With the noise the oiless makes I don't think it matters. I wouldn't own an oiless. My US-made Campbell-Hausfeld has been running fine with Mobil-1 for about three years now and my hearing is still good. :)

They are actually referred to as "permanently lubricated". This just means sealed bearings on the rods. The piston rings are some kind of plastic, probably with teflon in them, there is no splash lubrication to the pistons whatsoever.
