Tony actually helped me with this same problem and his solution worked out great. Here is a picture of the tool I made with a little guidance.

The metal is just a spare key way it fit perfectly

Thanks Woodman for posting a pic of how it’s made. It shows allot more detail than just the words I was saying

dunno what happened to my original pictures, but any copies of them I Had are LONG gone at this point.

I just cut a socket up so it had two fingers sticking down into the tabs. A t handle breaker bar would be best for equal force on the retainer. Good luck!

Alright, so I made my own tool from a harbor freight Pittsburgh pro 27 mm deep impact socket. It works like a fuc*?n champ! Thank you for suggesting it. If anyone needs to borrow it ill ship it to you. Here are some pics, took me about fifteen minutes to make it.

mrpizza, any chance you still have those photos on-hand? I'll probably have to make one of these myself, but would like to see how yours turned out. Flicker links look dead on this decade-old post, lol. Nevermind, just read the last post when I posted this. I'll just get to work then!

Yeah I don't have the pictures anymore and it was a long time ago. Sorry!

It was pretty easy to make and worked well though
