Looks like 80 gallon... 2 Stage pump... Not sure if 5HP or 7.5HP... But for $200, if the pump isn't seized and the tank isn't rusted out that seems very reasonable. You can hunt CL & eBay and whatnot for a replacement single-phase motor cheap.

Do you have the power to run it, either 3 phase or ~50A single phase? If so then could be a good buy, if you have to upgrade electrical then maybe.

The 'Campbell-Hausfield' make of pumps is a so-called 'economy' line, and the pumps are not the quality level of Qunicy or Saylor-Beall units.

That said, one now in good running condition could be cost-effective for 'home hobby use', and would likely run well for quite a few years' time with reasonable use and good maintenence.

I'd suspect, from the photo, that one is the basic 5hp unit sold by Graingers ($2238 list, current catalogue), rated for 16 cfm.

They get that cfm rating by running the pump fast.......for home use, it would be practical to replace the 5hp 3ph. motor with a 3hp single phase, and use a smaller motor pulley to drive the pump about 400-450-ish rpm.

3/5 of that 16 cfm is plenty of air for 'general use', air tools, paint spraying and suchlike, in a small automotive shop. Running at the lower speed, the pump would stay much cooler, so its working life would be much longer.

That $200 is cheap, nearly a give-away for a pump/tank that size.....but....expect to have to have the pump down for valves, maybe rod bearings......there's 'no free lunch'.

(fortunately, those pumps are ever so easy to work on)

cheers

I would not buy it. I live in Roanoke, not too far from you. You can get a running compressor in that range.

Too late . . . OP already committed to buy it in Post # 6 !!! :lol_hitti

Your post is the 10th post . . . did you even make ANY effort to READ thread ??

I have to disagree with some of your comments as I have done a similar deal last year about this time.

the tank is worth $200 at least. a good working 2 stage pump of any brand is worth another 200 or more depending on size/condition.

if you invest another $200-400 for a single phase electric motor this setup should last a while. from the picture it looks cared for, a little on the dusty side but at least the tank was drained often with that rust stain on the floor.

OP still in his own driver's seat, as the 80 gal Campbell Hausfeld is commercial version so it will last a lifetime once he gets a single phase motor on it.

Ran across another 5 HP single phase Baldor . . . this one $200
. . .
. . . . not mine, just FYI for OP if he wants to build a stout compressor.

OP, here's my 2 cents. I have that exact compressor. It is a 2 stage 7.5 hp 80 gallon rig. It's rated at from what I remember 25-28 cfm. Mine was used in a cabinet shop for over 20 years an still kicks ***. It is a slow chugging pump, and with good maintenance should last you a lifetime. They still make all the parts for the pump, so you are covered there. Good luck! If you have any questions just ask. I say buy it.

Forgot to mention, all I was really looking for is a tank. The guy said he would take 100 for the second ad I showed. It is a 1959 wayne with a good 220 motor
