Usually, I get a quality hose and extra fittings and make mine up, to the required length. Pictures show 3/8" hose, but you get the idea. Like this:

Length? I got a 24" SS wrapped flex hose from Grainger for a decent price. Used one from HF for about a year before it started cracking and leaking.

I got a braided one from McCaster Carr, it was only $15 or something plus $5 shipping. I remember the female swivel end being a little strange but it worked just fine.

If you live anywhere near civilization, there should be a hydraulic hose & fitting business somewhere in town. They can make any size, diameter, and length of hose you need, usually while you wait.
Support your local small businesses by taking jobs like this to them, rather than buying a Chinese hose from a mail order supply.

I'm sure I'll win for dumbest question of the year

But why do you need a short "whip hose" in between your tool and main hose?

I've been working in automotive and Rv shops for over twenty years now and never seen it.

Air hammers kill couplers, a small whip fixes that. I like whips on butterfly impacts, air hammers, and right angle drills. I use a butterfly impact quite a bit, so I put a swivel then a whip to get into tight places, when my 3050 gets here from pl_silverline, it will have the same setup.

The whip still has a coupler on it, how does this fix anything?

You know Steevo, I was going to do what someone else posted and go the Northern tool route since it was US made.
But I think I'll take your suggestion and find somewhere local.

Only thing better than "Made In The USA" is "Made In The USA" and help a neighbor provide for his family!

Great suggestion!:rocker::rocker:

Thanks to all and I'm with you guys on cheap hoses, don't want one. I'm using mine to connect the compressor to the hard lines.

Not a dumb question at all, I have wondered about that too. Here is what I have found....

Sticking the connector right on the tool makes it feel encumbered, something like a ten foot pole sticking out of it, especially when working in tight confines. A short whip hose does help.

There are are other solutions that help too. Flexible couplings.

Uhm, you don't have the male fitting and then the air hose sticking out of the gun. You have a flexible hose 2' long, and the coupler is at the end of that.

Stop by your local TSC and pick up a pre-made hydraulic hose, they carry 1/2" in 1' increments from 2' ($11.99) to 8' ($26.99). They also have 90 degree fittings so that you can install & remove the whip later.

Here's a pic from when I first got mine hooked up, before I switched to a 1/4 turn full-port valve on the compressor outlet (really great to be able to shut it easily so a slow leak somewhere won't cycle your compressor all the time) and piped for air distribution.

I have a 3/4 inch hydraulic hose connecting my compressor to the main line. Hydraulic hose is nice but very stiff. I would like something more flexible. Alternatives?

Look at mcmaster Carr. They have various hoses that they will put fitting on. Air, oil, hydraulic, high pressure. More than anyone would want. You can get male fittings or 1 male and female for ease of install. If you can't find what you want there then calla custom hydraulic hose maker but be ready to pay crazy money for a short piece like you want.

This is what I did to connect my hard piping to my hose reel. The autoparts store made me one, complete with a swivel for easy hook up. I think it was rated at 3000 PSI or some such huge-overkill number.

The cheap Chinese one that came with the reel failed after 5 years. I didn't want to have to replace it again any time soon.

It was pretty pricey to go this route. Quality costs money.

Push-Loc hose is what i have. Rated up to 300psi. I get mine at a industrial/farm store but i'm sure a store that carries hydraulic supplies will have it. Believe Parker makes it.

I see now. I was judging by the first picture in this thread, with a male coupler on one end and a female on the other.

So this is a permanent fixture on the tool, and you would put one on every tool.
Thanks.
