Compressor wiring question

I have a 5hp two stage compressor. My plan is to hardwire it to a sub panel located approximately 5 feet from the compressor. What size wire should I use and what type of conduit would be required? Thanks

3 conductors of #10 THWN- red, black, green in 3/4 conduit to a j box. Use FMC from there to the compressor.

Since panel is close you use the breaker as a cutoff

No as long as the compressor is within sight of the breaker panel and less than 50' away...

Yes.
