Compressor Wiring

My old single stage Campbell Hausfeld 220 compressor was hard wired with #12 solid. About 80 feet from the sub-panel.

My new consumer grade single stage 220 Ingersol Rand came with a table that recommends #10 wire. So, today I ripped out the #12 and replaced it with #10.

The #10 runs to a junction box about 6' from the compressor. Can I finish the run with #12? Is solid OK or should I use stranded?

if it requires a 30 amp breaker no.if still uses 20 amp breaker yes.just put 10ga all the way.stay with solid.

Maybe, what is the FLA rating on the motor? Personally I would use a cord and plug, gives a means of disconnect.

We need to know the HP and the FLA of the motor first.

I did the job today with #10. I was hoping to avoid working with that stuff in the confines of the pressure switch box but it turned out to be no big deal.

The motor is rated 3 HP and 15.0 FLA.

Total run from the panel is right at 85 feet.

Think I will be OK?

Yes, you will be fine and could have used a 12 cord or wire to finish.
