Hello Members Happy Fathers Day. I’m looking to purchase a decent 60 gallon air compressor that has atleast 12-15 cfm’s. Not looking to go too cheap but inexpensive with some reliability and not too loud if there is such an animal ( lol) Thanks.

I think what you will find is the "3hp" 60 gallon compressors will claim ~12 CFM. The ~4-5 hp ones will claim closer to 15. I think most 60 gallon units will be on the low end of that scale and many will probably be more like a very honest 10-11 CFM. How much of a difference does that make for you? I guess that depends on what you are really doing. If the difference between 10 and 12 matters, you should probably just step up to a 5hp (~20+ amp motor).

As for noise levels, so much of the difference seems to come down to the air intake and probably pump RPM. I helped my brother put together an 80 gallon compressor using a "3hp" Harbor Freight pump. It was surprisingly quiet. Others have really complained about some of the compressors which have the rectangular filters built right into the head like this:

With the second one you can easily make some changes to act like an intake muffler. A number of youtube videos cover this. My experience is that adding a rubber tube to the intake can really help.

vs an air filter in a screw on housing like this

Always helps to post a location with your screen name. My friend owns a sales and service of air compressors business, but if you're in CA, no-use to you. However, if you're in West Palm Beach, you may be interested.

Hello I’m located in New Jersey. I was looking into the Harbor Freight one with better compressor some people are talking about. Just thought I would check it out. The Cornwell tool guy has one on sale also. Not sure what’s out there in the tank size. I’m going to be spraying rust proofing materials and using other handheld compressed air tools. This is for personal use not commercial.
