Compressors in Canada

I'm having a really tough time finding a compressor I like.
The important things to me in order are

1 Durabilty/quality
2 Noise
3 CFM (min 15cfm)
4 Price

I want a vertical stationary 230v unit (min 60 gallon).

From all the research I have done. The best for me would be a Quincy QTSV 45. But the only distributor for British Columbia is a big wholesaler to the mining industry that won't answer my emails or return phone calls.
At the local tool stores all I see is rebranded cambell hausfeld units (speedair, husky) that suspiciously are missing the "made in USA" embossing on the pumps.

Any suggestions would be apreciated.

Yes electrical outlets are the same.

Ordering from the states would be problematic. The shipping charge would be out of this world once you tack on the brokerage fees we get dinged with. I would much rather pick it up with my truck. If I found a place close to the border I would pick it up my self. But I may run into problems if I write it off for taxes (self employed). Not sure, I may have to talk to my accountant about out of country purchases.

To the OP, what is wrong with a traditional IR compressor??? Have you also looked at any used compressors out there?

Grainger is in Canada. I don't think their SpeedAire brand are re-badged CH units. They build their own motors (Dayton)...I had great luck with a small Speedaire for years before I could afford a larger unit.

I talked to a sales person about the speedair. He said it's the same company that makes camppbell hausfeld. They took apart a speedair and a campbell model and found the parts were identical. The campbell model was $100 cheaper, so they stoped selling the speedair model.

I noticed a different brand in a tool store I visited. Eagle

It was selling for a very attractive price ($1000cnd).
Do any of you guys have experiance with this brand?

That pump spins about twice as fast as the quincy will, so it will probably be pretty noisy as well. Also, what sort of truck do you have? Moving one of these compressors is a serious *****. We had enough trouble moving the eaton 15 feet. They had to use a pallet jack just to move it into the garage for us.

I just received my Eaton 5 HP, 80 gal. this week. I had to move it from the driveway to the side of the garage where I had a shed built to house it. The way me and a friend did it was get 4 - 3" casters (on sale at HF) and bolt them under the portion of the pallet that the compressor was bolted to. Then we cut the rest of the pallet off and rolled it into the shed, ~ 30'. Then unbolted the compressor and put a jack under the compressor and jacked it up to remove the made up dolly, and then just lowered the jack and slid the jack out from under the compressor when tilted at an angle. Worked real slick. I will post some pics next week.

We have an eaton 5hp too so you know how much that thing weighs We ran 2x4s through the underside of the platform where the pump a nd c ompressor mounts,and spaced them so it wouldnt crusht the pumps "exhuast" We then used an engine hoist to pick up the one side, and on the other side used a car jack on this big platform made of 4x4s... not the brightest thing wed ever done but it was really late... you know how it is


Are you happy with it? the one complaint I had about mine was that the belt gaurd vibrated, so I took threaded rod and double nutted it on one end, and I had a round piece of steel (abour 3 inch circ) that I painted flat black to match. Ran it trough the center of the belts, and put a big washer on the other side, and tightened the cover together a bit. The vibration went away, and It looks pretty good

I have the Bel-Aire 218v...great unit...a little pricey for you with the $$$ exchange rate right now...Cast-Air units are also excellent...look over Cast-Air's info (About Us) on real HP and other false advertising claims...it will help you make sense of manufacturers claims.

Buy the biggest unit you can afford...cast iron pump for long life.

That Eagle you looked at has an aluminum compressor...try to avoid that 3-cylinder job...my friends have had them and they did not give good service.

I never priced these but Elroy has a feeling they are a top notice INDUSTRIAL compressor. Maybe your only looking for a unit a home. Just remember you get what you pay for. Buy one of these and your grand children will think of you.

I GUARANTEE you they have single phase units...they would lose the biggest market segment if they only sell 3-phase.

EZ....Load it in a pick-up or on a trailer, get it in your garage then get a chain hoist or a GOOD ratchet-type winch and hook it to your garage truss. Double up the lower stringer with another 2X4 or 2X6, and lift 'er out....

I'm unloading a 1500lb ironworker the same way tomorrow...

I was thinking about the same thing. A friend was offering to lend me his low level trailer if need be. But I phoned a cartage company to get a price quote to move it. They said $70 CND delivered and unloaded into my garage wherever I like. Seeing as taking the time off work to do this myself would cost me more, I decided to get it delivered.

Look at the Devilbus web site. They are made in Ontario. They call them Devon now I believe. I have three Devilbus compressors. They are each five horse. They are not cheap the good one. Get a two stage if possible. A good compressor will last a lifetime with proper matience. My dad still has his old devilbus and he is 89. I painted my first car with it. Sometimes you can pick up real good used ones. I call the ones I have thumper because they just go along all day and heat is not a problem compared to others that i have worked with. I have two shops and with painting I do not want compressor failure so keep a backup. Two of mine were three phase so I just bought new single phase motors. They had low hours and the other I bought new in 1980
