Greetings fellow "Garage Addicts",

New guy to the board. Been lurking for a few months.

Planning on building a 28X60 Pole Barn. So, as with all things in my life as a project manager, having a "plan" is essential!

I have been working on estimates for concrete work, and have no clue as to what to expect in cost for a cubic yard of concrete.

I am curious as to what you folks have paid for concrete.

I would appreciate it if individuals who post here and have recently built or have received estimates for concrete work can share their costs for a cubic yard of concrete.

Regards,

Caddis295

The best estimate of cost is a current bid from a qualified bidder.

Let me say that again...

The best estimate of cost is a current bid from a qualified bidder.

All the questions about cost here on this board will get you answers in the rough ballpark. But a written bid with a guaranteed time frame is golden, and better than an estimate.

A few phone calls to your local suppliers and contractors will get you all the info you need, and it will be reliable.
A couple of things to consider:
Up north, frost laws govern when heavy concrete trucks can deliver, and by extension, when the plants open. Other factors will influence cost such as availability of crews and size and ease of your job.
Make sure all bids are for exactly the same job. Same time frame, same concrete spec. Same reinforcing and expansion joints and saw cutting. Same prep work. Same access to the site. Some will give you different bids than you asked for. Get them to adjust them.
Get itemized bids, not lump sum. That way you can compare apples to apples by adjusting bids that vary from what you asked for, so everyone's bid is for the same job.

Now....since you have an array of bids, they will vary from some very low compared to the rest, to some very high. The bulk of them will be in a group. That is what your job should cost. Costs from other areas, for other jobs won't get you an accurate answer.

Costs vary by location:

Minnesota vs Florida vs Zambia vs Australia vs Canada vs Japan . . etc, etc

Thank you for the responses. I ask mainly as a point of comparison to other locations in the US. I live in Georgia. I have been going with a proposed rule of thumb of $95 a cubic yard.:scared:

I wish I could buy it that cheap here in East Tennessee. Very close to $125 a yard plus tax when it is delivered. That does not account for bar or gradework either. In my area I have been told you budget $300 a yard if I want it turn-keyed and correctly done.

Here it is $100 a yard just for the concrete and $4.50 a square foot for a finished job.

I'm in Ga also.

Having a 30x30 poured 4" and finished next month for $2900. Includes mesh and 1 load of gravel. More gravel will be extra.

Eastern Ct. Avg. price is $100-$125 cubic yard for concrete only. Labor is exactly the same price. So whatever the concrete price is, just double it. This includes all the form set up and removal. Rebar, mesh, additives are extra.

A rough but fairly good estimate is double the price of concrete per yard for finished cost. Obviously the amount of prep, forms, reinforcement all affect final cost.

Thanks to everyone for their input. I spoke with the local concrete company, it is going to be $95-$98 a cubic yard for 4000 psi delivered. I also have a contact that does the forms, mesh/rebar & finish work for .55 a sqft. We will see how it all comes out!
