Concrete floor advice

I have a small room in my walkout basement level that has a dirt floor. It would make a great storage room but the dirt floor isn't so great! I would like to pour a concrete floor in there. A friend of mine has a small concrete mixer that will just fit inside the door. I'm thinking that I could but a divider board half way along the long edge. I could put the mixer on one half of the room and pour the other 1/2 of the room. When the first side is set, put the mixer on that side and pour the second half.

Does anyone see any problems with that technique? Also, how do I need to prepare the floor before pouring? I have about 5-6 inches of depth to work with. The room is 12.5' x 4.5' and the ceiling is about 12' high.

What is the size of the room. Every 81 sq ft of 4" thick is a yard of concrete. Mixing that with a small mixer is a lot of work. If you are not expecting heavy load use a little gravel to make it so that you only need about 4" mix not 5-6 as you stated.

I said i had 5-6" to work with, i was never going to pour that deep. As i stated the room is 12.5 x 4.5.

Level the ground. Place bricks. Sweep sand over the brick to lock in place.

Your process will work fine. I would make three areas though (123). Lay the concrete in areas 1 and 3 first then when cured use the inner edges of them to level area 2.

Pavers would work but I'd prefer a more dust free and grit free environment
The room adjoins a carpeted theater. Do I need to put down plastic before the gravel? Any other tips?

OP, you'll get best advice if GJer's know WHERE you are located as weather is lot different between Alaska and south Miami. Update your GJ profile with City / State / Country.

Before you concrete everything over, be sure you PLAN for everything you might want done in basement in terms of upgrades for toilets, shower, laundry room, sump-pump, etc. as now would be time to finish rough install of those. Also, if basement has any moisture problems in rainy season, make sure that is planned for in advance of any concrete work.
