Concrete Floor Paint Is Peeling

We are building a workshop/exercise room/storage area.

The concrete floor was sealed and painted with epoxy floor paint. Plastic film was put over my stuff down there and taped to the floor because they were going to sheetrock the area.

When that was done they pulled off the tape (and some of the paint under the tape.) There are several strips of bare concrete on the floor as well as other defects where paint had come up.

Ever heard of something like that? How long should epoxy paint take to cure?

The contractor is going to fix the floor. As I understand it the floor will be repainted with more of the epoxy paint.

Oh well, I thought I could entertain you a little.

I do not believe you should epoxy over sealer. The epoxy doesn't bite the concrete properly.

Get your money back and hire a pro who only dedicates himself to seamless flooring only...if tape peels it off easily, it's more than likely the rest of the floor will fail

Peeling = loss of adhesion = poor prep. That goes for the whole floor, it must be diamond ground and reapplied. GarageGuy is right, he was not and never will be a professional. Do not be fooled by statements about faulty product or that another coat will solve the problem. It will not.

As usual I was wrong. The floor was acid washed, not sealed.

The contractor will fix it his way and I actually trust him. His company has done very good work for us. It does seem funny they didn't know the epoxy wasn't finished curing. The painter was off on another job and the sheetrock guys that covered my stuff with film probably didn't know when it was painted.

As many mistakes as I have made on my job it seems a little hipocritical to get too PO'ed about someone else's mistake. What can I say?

Edger's comments about redoing the floor are OK for an expensive industrial floor but I think that is overkill for a basement.

I'll let you know what happens if anyone cares. At least I get my basement!
