Concrete floor thickness?

When we have our new garage/woodworking shop built in the section that will be used to house our Mustangs I want to install a 4 post lift drive on lift how thick should the floor be poured for the lift? Thanks.:headscrat

3.5 (using 2x4 forms) inches thick is standard.

I wouldnt put a lift on anything thinner than 5.5 (using 2x6 forms) inches though.

Many auto-lifts will specify what thickness pad it needs.

The garage Im drawing plans for right now will have one bay poured at 3.5 inches, and the shop bay, with the 2-post lift, will get a 5.5 inch slab, with two 4'x4', 8" thick sections where the lift will bolt down.

Doesn't it also depend on different concrete mixtures? Aren't there certain PSI ratings that must be taken into account?

A quick search came up with this info from carguygarage. I cannot vouch for it's accuracy, but this is what I had in mind:

Two and four post lifts have specific concrete requirements. Lifts with a larger foot print, like the storage lifts, do not have requirements on concrete.

Car Lift Concrete Specifications
7,000-10,000lb Two Post Car Lift 4" min. 3000 PSI concrete
12,000-18,000lb Two Post Car Lift 6" min. 3000 PSI concrete

7,000-40,000lb Four Post Car Lift 4" min. 3000 PSI concrete

Storage lifts and lifts with larger footprints do not have specific concrete requirements.
If you are unsure of the thickness and PSI of your concrete and want to install a 2 or 4 post lift you should pour concrete pads. The basic rule is that you need the pads to be 12" wider on each side from the base plates of the lift. For a 2 post, you'll need to go down at least 2 feet. For a 4 post, you'll need to go down at least 6" New concete must also cure at least 28 days.

Sounds good to me... and as always, check with the manufacturer before pouring. I got a copy of the install manual for my lift before I even purchased it so I knew all the specs. Lift specs don't change to much over time, so even if you're not going to put the lift in for another year or so, you should be fine.

Can someone link me to other threads that show specific, concrete footings, materials and prep for 10K two post lifts,

I need to retrofit existing 4" slab to adequtely support 2 post lift
