Concrete / Foundation Pricing Questions

I'm working on getting my garage drawings finished up, but I have some questions about concrete quotes I've received (mostly because they seem quite high to me) -

The garage in question is a 24'x28' detached 2 car. I live in St. Louis, and they do require a full foundation with footing 30" below grade. The location of the garage slopes in a couple different directions, so the concrete wall will have to be anywhere from 3' to 6'. I would estimate about 40 linear feet of ~6' wall and the rest could be 3'.

The slab estimates were for 4" of 4,000 psi concrete with piers (I believe that is the right word) underneath where the 2 post lift will go.

I've received quotes ranging from $11,500 to $13,000 for the work. Using $100/cubic yard to estimate, I came up with around $3,500 in concrete. How much cost does the rebar add? Rock? Vapor barrier?

Do these estimates seem reasonable?

I have no idea how much site work your project will need.

Last week, I did get a quote from readymix @ $77 a yard

Just comparison of building cost. I'm getting ready to add an 22x26 extension to my garage. I've done a little bit of the site work already but I got an estimate, from a well respected concrete company, for $2500 to finish the prep, rebar and pour the slab.

Mine should be done soon.

that really not a bad price. 100 dollar a yard has been going rate for concrete for years, its about right. on flat work the price is usually double, so 7000 on slab but that be turn key. because of the wall that where the price is, labor, form work, rebar. The forms be couple thousand there. so I would say 9000-13000. But you dont want to go cheapest, you get what you pay for. remember they have insurance, truck, workman comp, profit margin.

if you want cheap, do it yourself
