I just purchased a house one year old and am getting ready to paint the floor. Any recommendations on what brand to use including the clear gloss finish? I read good things about Valspar. Any input would be appreciated.

The Valspar is a 2-part epoxy paint product similar to Rustoleum, Quikrete, and all the other epoxy paint kits out there. According to it's data sheet it will dry to a film thickness of only 1.5 mils. Just so you are aware, these kits really are more like a paint and not an epoxy, but they do serve their purpose if you are on a limited budget. They are not however going to give you the same protection and years of service as the advertising likes to claim. Here is a good article on epoxy paints for garage floors that you may want to read to educate yourself a little more.

There is a lot of debate in this forum about these types of products as you may find out, but I believe they do serve a purpose for the homeowner who is on a budget and really wants to do something about their garage floor. This is why they are so popular among other reasons. They are not the best long term solution though by any means. If you plan on staying in your new home for a while and a good epoxy floor is not in the budget, then be prepared to spend the money on something more permanent in the future.

welcome. my advice is the same as to anyone joining this forum for garage floor questions. do not rely on the answers to this thread to make your flooring decision. spend a good night reading the most recent threads going back a five pages and that will give you enough information to at least know the options out there and decide what are good questions to ask in the future.

I'd second this advice. In fact you should probably spend several nights researching. There's a huge amount of info and experience on this forum.
