Concrete Grinder vs. Diamond Grinder

Hey Everyone,

I'm about to reserve a grinder from Sunbelt here in Knoxville. I was on their website and they have a concrete grinder and then they have a diamond grinder. Can someone explain the difference for me?

IMHO go with the diamond grinder all things equal. I prefer a single head for DIY. ANy specs we can compare?

The concrete grinder uses some type of "sanding blocks" where the diamond grinder can use the blocks or the diamond discs. At least that is what I understood.

The grinder rental was $92 but then they are charging me $20 per disc and there are 6 discs.

How much area do you have to grind and why grind?

The Previous owners of our home threw down a cheap concrete sealer in the garage to make it look nice to sell. There is hot tire pickup everywhere.

My garage is 780 sq feet. Gray base with black,graphite, white glow, and bright orange flakes. I will clear coat.

A little confused. Do you have just a sealer or the gray base flake stuff? or are you saying you want to put down the gray with flakes?

No matter what you have a grinder will pull it off. You have to also rent the extra vacuum because I have the grandest shop vac and it clogs up FAST. I also took out the filter and used a hose on the exhaust. Everyones car needed a bath and the yard had a haze on it.

For your size garage I suggest a single head. You will finish it easily in 5 hours. Dual head Edco is for 1000 plus in my opinion. Make sure the blades are new or close to new. If they are worn they will not cut like they should. I had a mixture of good and bad ones but they cut me a killer deal on the heads. They were Free! The Sunbelt guy asked me to spread good news so I had two other frineds rent the grinder to do some larger spaces.

If your top layer is that bad you may need to flood with SL prior to coating as the grinder will likely eat your floor up.

My garage has just a sealer. I will be grinding that off and putting down Epoxy Coat on Sept 14-15.

Pretty excited but have a lot of work to do before hand.

Legacy- What is SL? I apologize for the ignorance in advance. I bought a grinding disc for my handheld grinder and the tire pickup came up but was a lot of work and made an incredible mess. I can do that on just the places where my wife parked and then use the diamond grinder. Would that be ok?
Also, I purchased some of your Flexible expansion joint filler (i think it was HD-821). I put that down after I diamond grind, correct? Do I need to diamond grind again after it hardens?
