Concrete higher than Garage door

Hi all,

New to this forum and urgently require advise. My house is higher than my neighbours and we have a shared driveway which leads to the garage. Water was going into the garage when it rained due to old uneven concrete. So I decided to get the whole shared driveway redone with my neighbour sharing the cost. The issue is that they have placed concrete 2 inches higher than the garage door bottom and left a gap so the door can swing open. Is this the right way, as it looks odd to me. Now the space they have left for the door to open will have a slight slop to allow the water to pass into the garden instead of going into the garage. The new concrete is slopping away from the garge into the centre of the shared drive and into a drain in the middle, which is fine. I cannot afford to raise the whole garage and ideas? Your help would be much appreciated. Thanks again.

Sounds like the contractor took the easy route and poured over the old crete?

Were you at all involved prior to the concrete being placed?

Was not involved, but he showed me what he had done, and I thought it looked a bit odd. Can I tell him to take it all off and redo the shared drive?

Oh bye the way, I dont use the garage to park my car, I just use it for storage. As I said it looks odd, is there a quick fix, rather than taking off all the concrete?

I guess the other option is to tkae the garage door out and brick it up, as I do not use the garage for my car? Any thoughts?

Sounds like there was not good communication with the contractor. At this point, you aren't going to solve the driveway problem without taking it out. If that is not an option, closing off the door so that the driveway doesn't drain in to it seems like a possibility.

Sounds like a bad situation, for sure.

One things for certain - it's not right. Another thing is certain - the contractor is not going to re-do it without a fight.

I would start by call him out there and ask HIM what he expects you to do.
