I've been working on the design part of my backyard garage and I've gotten to the point where I'm shopping for concrete guys to pour the slab. Anyone in the area have a company they recommend or have done business with in the last few months? Any advice is appreciated and once I'm further along on the building part I will post my build thread.

I think it depends on what you want. I put in a 37 X 42 foot slab for $11K which is ~$7/sq foot. Kind of expensive but it was full perimeter footing with beams every 10' and a LOT of rebar (5/8" rebar in the beams and half inch in the slab itself). The slab is 6" with a 6" curb around the perimeter to keep the sill dry and a brick ledge on the outer surface. Overkill, I know, but hard to retrofit it later if under-designed.

The builder recommended concrete contractor that I went with quoted $5.25/sq ft (1,080 sq ft - 30x36) for a 4", 4,000psi mix with a rebar reinforced perimeter beam and 3/8" rebar on 12" centers. I paid him an additional $1/sq ft for a 5,000psi mix, with rebar forms in cross beams (both length-wise and width-wise beams in addition to the perimeter beam) and two 3'x3' pads for a future 2-post lift. They did a quality, professional job and cleaned up after themselves. I was happy with their work.

I do not know if the numbers above are his standard or discounted, as he does a lot of work for Morton Buildings, who should be putting up my building in a couple of weeks...

Juan is based out of the Waco area, but he and his crew do jobs all over this area. I'm just North of Austin.

I had a friend that recommended Juan for some concrete work in the Round Rock TX area. I happened upon your post when searching his name. Would you happen to have an email address for him? I wanted to send him a quote request. Thank you.

Check with the concrete companies for recommendations. I have found they know the best, the ones that show up on time to do the work and stand behind what they have done. They usually are also cheaper than those that have adds in the yellowpages/newspaper. Lots of luck on your build.
