can anyone recommend a good concrete mixer? I’m thinking about 5 ft.³. Mostly for dumping concrete in post tolls for a solar array set up. But I am gonna attempt for these to support a balcony. They’re going to sit on top of some 12 inch peers that are already poured up the ground level. The welding plates will be embedded in the top. And the frustum will be a little wider on the top to accommodate the plates. Exact dimensions haven’t been determined yet. But I suspect they’ll be about 18“ x 18“ on the base and probably in the neighborhood of 18 inches tall. But I may go 24 x 24 on the base.

Anyway, I’m leaning towards electric power. Run it off the genny. I was thinking about 5 ft.³ understanding that that’s not all usable. There’s a bunch of cheap looking plastic drum things that might serve. Direct drive which I’m not a big fan of. But a lightweight quick and dirty deal might be great. I’ll be surprised if I put 50 bags to this thing.

Or do I hold out for a metal drum?

I keep coming back to this one for some reason.

For a small and very probably one time project I would recommend either renting a mixer or buying a used machine.
40+, years ago I had some work done and the contractor called a company that showed up with a truck that had the Cement, Sand and the Aggregate on board and they mixed and delivered the concrete at the Job Site and poured it into the forms. The truck did connect to my garden hose, but the clean up was done off site.
A real “Slam Bam, Thank You Mam” operation. The driver read the meter and accepted the cash. Really quick and easy.

Second this. Got a nice cast iron one for $100 last year off Craigslist. Used it a couple time but will not part with it. Just in case. The second I sell it.......Yep, need one.
