Getting ready to pour some concrete on thursday, 6300 square feet of it! Its for a parking lot for my second auto shop. The original parking lot as nasty asphalt that had all kinds of dirt/sediment on it and had more grass then blacktop. Pulled it all out with a bobcat and dug it out, poured some gravel on it. Still have a little more work to do but its coming along.

The Type 57 gravel is not compacted. This parking lot had 30+ years of asphalt on it, the base is solid as can be. Contractor is bringing compacting machine out. My other lot we didn't compact the gravel and its been fine for several years. He has the machine so I figured why not.

My driveway was over 7200ft^2. The contractor did it in approximately 5 pours, but I did have a trench/drain installed across the entire length of the shop (one of the better ideas that I had).

JOHNMAN how many ft apart are your control cuts? I looked at a few lots in the area, a lot of guys doing 10ft cuts, I'm just curious as to how well they perform. A lot of money going into the lot, I don't want a cracked parking lot.

They are pouring this all in one day, 7 guys with a power trowell

Contractor sent a couple of guys over to compact today. He was right, not much compacting going on with type 57. Little better then it was, but the dirt is solid underneath for most part so I'm not concerned. They pour tomorrow, down to 5 guys from 7 so we will see how it goes.

why are you adding 57 stone, 57 stone is only used for wet area below the water table, if the base been there 30 years, just pour on the base like everybody else does

Its the norm around here. Lots of annual rainfall in addition to frequent frosts from October to early May. I may be able to sneak by without it, but for $900 I'd rather have the protection against it raining hard and then freezing over night and lifting the slab. The 57 gravel allows the water a place to go without puddling up underneath.

I have it at my house (done by a different contractor) and on the sidewalks they just put in for me at my 4 unit rental (same contractor doing this parking lot). We have some at my other shop, but it is a mixed parking lot of asphalt on the old side of the building, the next thing to be ripped up and concrete installed. I am not sure what is under the asphalt.
