Concrete question

I am building a 26x30 garage behind my house. The garage sits about 15' from the end of my existing driveway. At the end of the driveway you step down 5" to a concrete walkway/pad that measures @ 6'x6'. I have the finished grade for the garage floor about 2" higher than the existing driveway. The pad has been there since 1978 and has not settled or cracked. My question is can I just pour over the top of this 6x6 pad when I connect my existing drive to the garage? If so would I have to drill it and dowl it with some rebar? What do you guys think?

Pictures of exisitng conditions always help. But based on what you've said, I would pour over the top of it. You won't get better compaction of subbase than existing unsettled/undamaged concrete that's almost 30 years old.

I wouldn't worry too much about doweling the two slabs together. Where are they going to move to?

Make sure you use an expansion joint between the old driveway and the new concrete.

I agree with this and would add coring/boring the existing drive for rebar into the new pour. Otherwise there generally is some shifting in elevation, arrrgh!
