Concrete Question???

I'm finally having my concrete poured for my driveway, from the road to my main house.
My concrete guy is great he set the grade from current pad to top of road and is bringing in stone to fill the low spot. It looks high because of the grade of the hill. Question is should I keep it as is or have have him drop it? I can and will bring in millings to grade my ring driveway to pole barn, and also grade the grass along the lawn if I have too. Just looking for opinions.

I’ve never seen anyone set forms up before grading the area. That’s a lot of backfill to being in.

Looks like lots of fill dirt will be needed. I would be concerned with how far out you’ll have to fill/grade to avoid it looking like a big drop off on each side of the driveway.

Not sure about your area, but here, in the rural areas where the county hwy. departments plows the snow off of the roads, they require us to keep the first 4-5 feet running back into your yard, following the pitch of the road, roughly. This helps them form tearing a wing off as they come through at speeds.

Beyond that, I'd drop the center of the driveway at least 4"just to try to alleviate some of the lawn repair you're going to have to do.

I agree with prior posts regarding setting forms before placing base material. It makes it very difficult to properly compact the edges of the fill, which look to be pretty deep. It also looks like the base material they have already placed was installed right over grass and topsoil, which is another no-no. I'd be a little concerned about the crews competence.

From an aesthetic standpoint, I agree with another prior post that rounded corners would look better than square but that's the least of your problems.

So, what's the story with the house next door? Are they sharing part of your driveway?
The "neighbors house" is actually his other garage/storage building.

As for the forming, then grading, the forms are there to help with the grading, once the grading is done, the forms will be redone and then the concrete will be formed. In areas with large elevation changes, I've seen the technique before.

For the OP, are you doing the grading, or is your concrete driveway contractor doing it?
