Concrete reinforcement?

IMG_1304.jpegLooking at getting this built. Will be a level floor. 6” thick. Will have a 2 post lift and machine tools, Bridgeport, lathe, etc. what would be a good plan for rebar/grid/control joints? I know nothing about concrete! 3500ksi vs 4000?

Where are you located, What regs do you have to abide by? Slab on grade, frost wall? Thickened edge slab?

I have to be the ******* when this subject comes up: the reason concrete WILL fail is putting steel bonded tendons within the composite matrix. Concrete mixed with portland cement will shrink from the time it is poured until forever. The steel inside does not. Worse yet: the contracting concrete that is very strong in compression gets progressively loaded in tension by the non-shrinking rebar, so begins a network of micro-cracks that ultimately provide the moisture and oxygen to corroded the steel. When the rebar rusts, the exfoliating oxides of iron EXPAND and open up the pathways to more and better corrosion. The construction and cement industries gladly ignore this fact as it allows them to replace most of our infrastructure every 50 or so years.

If you like bonded tendons then use fiberglass or much better basal rebar. If you have a small fortune and want the ultimate go to unbonded steel tendons to post tension. If you want a proven method of using steel without the short term risks - use Helix. If you are a bit more adventurous use basalt fiber (in form similar to Helix - now in process of certifying as such).
