Long time lurker. I am currently looking to buy a house but
am noticing a lot of the nice ones don't have garages but
have the land to build a nice one. .5 - 1 acres. Location:
Northern Connecticut. Question: What is the average cost
for the footers and slab? The slab must be able to support
a lift. 2 post or 4 post. Haven't decided yet. Average sized
2 bay garage. The daily drivers sleep outside. The bike sleeps
inside. Plans are to be able to do my own maintenance and repairs
and start a resto project on a 57 Bel Air or 1950's Ford pick up.

Probably $2k-$10k depending on how fancy you want it, what kind of price you can get on the concrete, and how much of the work you do yourself.

The price Gary quoted is about right....a lot of variables....

$2K would be on the very low end....barely cover the cost of the concrete....For an average 2 bay, I would say you are looking at around $5k on the cheap side....that is if they do all the work.....

What ever size you decide on....go a little bigger....at least depth.....you don't have to go supper wide....20-25' would be good....The wider you go the more complicated (and expensive) the roof gets..........but go deep....30' or more....you will be glad for the extra space....

Thanks guys. I did plan on making it deeper than wider. I like having the
work bench and tool chests at the back of the garage.

I am looking at having some work done at my house as well and was given a price of 7K for excavation and cement work, this is for about 16 X 40, half of that will be garage with concrete and the other a crawl space with room but still have to have the footer dug out and poured

if you did a 24 x 30 six inch thick, you dont need six inch but figuring high. that 14 yard under $1400 for concrete, footer are different here I can use foot deep 18 inch wide, up north you cant. dont know what you can get away with. that would be six yard. so you looking at under $2000 for concrete alone. digging, excuvation, removing topsoil, you can do yourself. Oh you cant, then pay $10,000 and leave us alone.

Ok back to figuring. wood, you can borrow steal, etc $250. labor to finish, either do it yourself or find a old finisher on weekend high price $500. that $2750 so far. rebar, you dont need it but I know you want it anyway $250

If you really want the slab and really try, you can do it yourself $3000. but thats a hard money job, you keep thinking it goes up. now this is you and your buddies, not hiring a con with a tractor- contractor

I just had a 24x40 done, and with the deep footers required in Idaho, and the 18" high by 8" wide foundations, and a six inch reinforced slab, it was $7500 for the concrete work.

I am doing the exact same size (24 x 30) in Eastern, NY. My footings are being poured as we speak (hopefully I will find the time to start my thread). I have an 8" x 4ft frost wall with an 8" x 16" footer and 5" pad. However, I will also have a 2ft knee wall above grade around most of the building (except for about 24ft of the permiter for the doors). So technically, my walls are 6ft tall in most spots. Total for his concrete work came to $5,375 and he was the best price I could find... by a lot. It's a good price IMO.

The excavation is what you want to watch out for. I was getting quotes for almost $3K to dig the hole and fill it back in. Renting a backhoe will work, but make sure you can get it all done in a day or two, or it starts to add up. I ended getting a reference from a friend and he is doing all my site work (including digging up a big stump) for $1,500.

Hope that helps.
