A month or so back a guy on here was planning to use either Concrete stain or solid color coating on their garage floor. Never did hear how it worked or pics posted. I did search and still couldn't find anything. Any of you know about the conctrete color stains and solid colors sold by Home Depot, etc.
I hope he was successful...I really want to use it but not until I see some results. Tks, Bill

Thanks much Jeff. Really appreciate your comments and look forward to the pictures. I'm considering the same brand from Home Depot. Can't make up my mind ; either the stain or solid color version. Did you ever consider the solid color instead of stain?

i got confused i thought youwere talking about concrete dye used while mixing, ive used that many times. we used to pour basements walls with different brick mold patterns and colors. never used the brush on stain, if it ever peels it will look worse than a stained floor.

A stain isn't going to peel or lift, it doesn't really sit on the surface, it goes into the pores. That's the advantage I think, over the surface type coatings. You spray the stuff on it's on there, it gets sucked down to the subsurface. I've dripped regular deck stains onto concrete, 10 years of weather later, the drips are still there.

When I decided to clean up my garage I debated using a stain or going with epoxy. My 25 year old floor had several minor cracks, a very rough brushed cement finish and had never been coated with anything. It had some rust stains and other spots of who knows what. I knew I was going to be building a car and any new floor would be abused. It didn't make sense to me to put down an expensive epoxy floor I knew would be scratched and marred but I did want something that would seal the floor from spills, etc. In the end i chose to use a product named Seal-Krete Garage Floor Sealer which is availible at Home Depot. Per the instructions I mixed 3 gallons of Seal-Krete with 2 gallons of Behr Solid Color Concrete Stain for my 20' x 20' garage. I first pressure washed the floor, spot cleaned stains, etched with muratic acid and then gave it a final pressure washing and let it dry well. I then rolled on the sealer/stain mix until I had used the whole batch. As I remember 4 or 5 coats. This mix has the consistency of water and goes on fast and drys fast and has very little odor. This mix wil not fill in cracks, rough surface and will not cover dark stains well. Seal-Krete can be mixed with paint which would probably make it thicker and cover more. I am happy with the finish and it looks good, although it has only been down for 6 months. The mix appears to penetrate the surface and drys very hard. All togather I probably have $125.00 in materials. When I finish building the car I will probably pressure wash the floor and recoat with the same mix which the factory said will work. If the floor starts to peel at that time I may explore using Race Deck or some other removable tile. But the floor is serving the purpose i intended it to.

Thanks for your excellent story and the pictures. Yours was the reply I hoped for from someone when I started this thread. I am now convinced that for
<$200 I can be satisfied with Home Depot's Seal-Krete and Behr Solid Color Concrete Stain!!! Bill
