Concrete steam cleaning?

Hi everyone, I got great info on my last question so I have another one.

I did a quick search & didn't really find much but forgive me if it is there somewhere.

I am cleaning up/semi-finishing my basement & garage. The basement floor is concrete and probably has about 50 years of grime built up it (I bought it recently). It doesn't look horrible but if I wipe it with a wet cloth a lot of **** comes up so..... I don't want to seal it up or make it look super nice now I just want to clean the concrete and slap on a quick coat of the proper paint but my question is specific to cleaning it. I think it has some old paint (but nothing I can scrap off) on it but a lot of it looks like bare concrete. After I thoroughly vacuum I really don't want to get on my hands and knees and scrub all day because I would basically be moving the dirt around (to get it up and out of the room would require so much mopping and using new water every few mins, etc.) and not exactly sanitizing it. I don't have the money to have someone come in and do it so I was thinking of renting a tile steam cleaner. From what I understand it does "sanitize" it and gets up the grime. I realize the grime will still be sitting on the floor and I would have to mop it up but at least it won't require scrubbing and totally soaking the floor and should be less time consuming.

Any thoughts on that approach or another fairly inexpensive not terribly labor intensive way to go.

I spent a ton of $ on waterproofing, dehumidifier, etc. so I'm not worried about dampness, moisture or sealing but really just cleaning it.

Thanks in advance.
