Concrete surface finish options

I am weeks away from having the slab poured for my 18x26 detached garage. I am curious what would typically be requested for the surface finish on a garage floor? I am not sure if I would like to seal it or use some sort of coating on it. Would each of those options require different finishing by the concrete guys? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I had the same question when building my garage. I wanted a coated finish so I contacted the coating supplier (Rust Bullet) and was told to make sure the masons did not smooth trowel the floor to a slick surface as they usually do. I was told to have them trowel to a light sand paper texture to allow the coating to grip to the floor. The epoxy guys said the same thing. A slick finish would probably be fine if you are just going to seal it.

Suggest you decide what finish you are going to use and then contact the manufacturer for their recommendations on what would be the best concrete texture for their particular product.

if you're putting down any sort of coating, reach out to the manufacturer and ask what they'd recommend.

Otherwise smooth trowel, or broom swept would be my thought.

I have had all mine done with a smooth surface, but I intended to etch and coat the slab with an epoxy based product after cure.

Thanks for the info. What would be the general timeframe that a slab must "cure" before any coatings should be applied?
