condensation line

i had a buddy that one of his kids broke the condensate line of his unit. well i said that would be an easy fix. when i got there and tried to take the broke fitting out of the drain pan. i found out that who ever had installed it, glued the threads into the drain pan.


what would be an easy fix?

You could always try to heat it up slightly.

^ Sounds like a good idea. Maybe a Heat Gun?

Use some Aero-Kroil on it to help loosen whatever the "glue" is.

Just went through this with my own that started leaking. Turns out that the plastic drain pan was just disintegrating after 10 years It went down hill from there, I tried JB weld, then some of that two pc epoxy putty but ended up taking the ductwork apart and replacing the pan. Found out that the evaporator was corroded in one spot that didnt look too good, so new evaporator too ($400) The new drain pan was substantially thicker than the old one so it will probably outlast the furnace.

Mine started leaking when it was still warm outside so it wasnt too big of a deal. I did it with the help of a friend who does HVAC work. Actually I was his helper Took us a couple of evenings. If you could see how my furnace is crammed into a closet you would not want to mess with it

Anyway, bottom line is that you probably wont be able to fix the pan. Just figure on buying a new one and I hope yours is easier to get to than mine is.

what i did is take my machinist ream and reamed out the old fitting to fit in a 1/2 pvc pipe and the converted it to 3/4. its not pretty but it will work. the AC is not that old and they dont have the money to replace the drain-pan. if they did i would have made one at work out of stainless steal. i guess we will see how it works when it come summertime. i might have to go back and redo it if it doesn't work but i dont see why it wont.
