Condesation in air line.

The other day I was using a die grinder to open up and grind round some trailer spring eyes. Maybe 30' of 3/8 hose. This might be the first time I've had much of a problem wet air. I have filter/ water trap at the compressor. What are some cost effective (read cheap) solutions. I'm not planning on painting, nor can I afford a plasma cutter.

The farther you move the separator from the compressor the better for one cheap thing. If you could get just 10-20' of copper pipe or tube and then the separator, it would probably catch most all of it. It needs to cool and condense before you can trap the water. Right now most of your cooling is happening at the pressure drop in the die grinder.

Every time I shut it off. It's not good to leave pressure and water in a tank. It not like mill air, just a 5hp 15CFM compressor. I was surprised at how little was in the filter.

Maybe blow the line out real good with a blow gun and see what happens. Can you put the filter on the end of your hose and see what’s happening? Might help to see what’s going on at each end of the system.

I think this is the ticket. Warm air can hold more water vapor. When it cools, the water condenses out. If it's not cool enough, your water trap won't capture it and it will only condense down stream.

A length (or lengths) of copper, aluminum, or even steel pipe before your water trap will go a long way to cooling the air. Add a drain to this pipe system and you'll see how much water you catch before you even get to your water trap.
