I’m filling out the permit application to add a hard-wired Level 2 EV charger and need to decide whether a trench is necessary.

Relevant info: 2017 NEC code cycle, Pennsylvania USA, 40 amp branch circuit on 240v split phase residential power, fed from a sub panel in the garage. I will add an AC disconnect even though it’s not required per 625.23.

I can’t find any code prohibiting the use of schedule 80 PVC (not sch40 because of physical damage) mounted along the back side of a curb / wall at the back of a driveway, as shown in my cartoon below. I could bury RMC at 6” per table 300.5 if I must, but that feels unnecessary.

Can anyone think of a violation this would cause?

i can't think about why that wouldn't be ok. i think i'd use an expansion joint on the horizontal run

that handrail top tube looks just like conduit though... ;)

Rigid Conduit handrail? going to be interesting to see how the conductors enter the conduit and then pass through to the connection box for the charger.
