Ive been searching the forum and couldnt find a recommendation for a conduit bender for metal/steel conduit. The local code does not allow for pvc conduit to be used in the basement or garage.
Ive never worked with metal/steel conduit and Im not looking forward to it so any advice on the proper tools and techniques would be appreciated.

Depends if you're looking to bend EMT or Rigid. EMT is fairly easy to work. Rigid (Same as pipe [IPS] ) on the other hand is much more difficult to work with. Elroy has these GB benders in 1/2", 3/4" and 1" and would not hesitate recommending them:

Go to page 57. These benders are also available at all the "box" home improvement stores such as Lowe's and Home Depressed. You'll find the finished projects as very rewarding so don't try to avoid the work. In addition to the bender, you'll also need a "fish tape" to pull the wire. Typically THHN or MTW. Good luck on your "exposed work" project.
