Conduit in crawlspace question

Hi all,

If I run conduit from my detached garage to the house and into my crawlspace, does the conduit need to be secured to the bottom of the floor joists. I am not going up into the house at all, just passing through to save having to rip up patio pavers and walkways. The entire run to the panel is in conduit. Plan to use aluminum xhhw-2.

Ok - I guess I asked for that answer

What I meant was can the 2.5" conduit lay on the ground since I am just "passing through" the crawlspace. Saves me from having to have a bend up run across the joists and then bend back down to go back out the other wall of crawlspace (beats digging though!)

As for using SER, I thought XHHW-2 individual strands would be easier to run through the conduit since the wire is going to be 4/0 aluminum ( 235 ft run,125A - based on the online calculators I used to keep voltage drop below 3%)

He meant that SER doesn't have to be in conduit. You could just staple the cable to the bottom of the joists. However, SER cannot be run underground, whether it's in conduit or not. So you'd have to have a junction box to transition to the XHHW for the underground portion.

But no, you can't have the conduit just laying on the ground.

Can conduit be attached to say stakes? Or pieces of unistrut embedded into concrete poured into 12" deep holes? or concrete piers in 12" holes w an embedded mount so it is on grade, but 'secured'? or drop some 2x4s down from the joists, then mount onto these 2x4s (lets say you needed to transit 12 feet, and didnt want to go 'up and down', rather keep in straight across)

I suppose 'ask the AHJ'...and surely screwing to the joist or sidewall would be easier.

1. Who said it would be in a place that required crawling over?

2. There could be situations where, for some reason, you enter a wall low- transit only a short crawl- and then exit through another wall.

My point was to explore other methods to “secure’ conduit. (Yes the ‘concrete’ ones are extreme...)

Anyway, OP has his answer....
