Or maybe I’m wrong. With 6ga wire I can’t just mark white wire with tape and use as ground right?

I was waiting for one of the code Nazis to chime in about how your garage will blow up if you don't get that ko seal in. I haven't seen a lift that needed anything larger than #12. Officially, you aren't supposed to re identify anything smaller than #4. The inspectors I deal with used to be service men, so they know what a pita it is to deal with all the spools. They let us re identify down to #8. Current is color blind

As I need an electrician to pull the permit I’m trying to be perfect. I actually have the green. No idea why I pulled in white. This motor says max amp 40. So that puts me in 10 ga territory. Probably going to put that in as my emergency stop switch requires crimp connectors.
I had to change that box out anyway. Put in a two gang so the switch and conduit would fit.
I absolutely hate doing things twice

Edit. Going with 12 ga. Since the max of the motor is 40amp that is all the breaker and wire need to have. Or do I have to get 125% of that max voltage?

You need 10 gauge. Manufacturer specs a 25 amp breaker, correct?

Incorrect.

If it doesn't have hoses, then it will have hard metal lines which will be run on the OUTSIDES of the posts.

Same thing as cheaper lifts that use hoses.

There should be a nameplate on the motor that tells everything. 40 amp sounds like a helluva lot for a little old hydraulic pump. I haven't done a whole lot of lifts, I believe 8. Every one of them needed a 20 amp 240 volt circuit.

Could you use a short length of flex conduit between the ceiling and the remainder of the conduit? Kinda like using a flex hose between the compressor and your hard pipes/

Along those lines, we dropped conduit to a Ft. above the post. then we used SO cord down to an electrical box on the lift post. If your going to possibly move the list, install a twist lock socket and plug.

Just pulled out the manual. 30 amp breaker. Minimum 10 ga wire.
I got that maxamp rating on the nameplate. It did not have any other amp info.

#6 is way to big of wire to use. The #10 on a 30A breaker is good.

I had it on hand so Tried to save some money but then I wanted the shutoff switch so going with a smaller gauge was needed

I have heard a few stories about runaway lift and never want that to happen to me. Same idea of having smoke alarms in my house even though I’ve never had a fire

Thanks for bringing this subject up. I had planned on putting a cut out switch on mine and had forgot about it.

Similar to your photo, I ran the conduit down the box. Instead of mounting the box directly to the post, I mounted the box to a 3/4" board and then bought an 18" magnetic tool bar at HF and attached to the back of the board. This way if I decide to move the lift or if the lift moves slightly no problem. Secondly, I didn't want to drill into the column. If I can take a photo I will send later. As well, I ran a coiled air supply around the conduit to my compressor. Clean looking.

Had to use a large deep box as the shutoff switch wouldn’t work with a single box due to the conduit connectors. Also trimmed a blank to fill the left side.

quick question for you,on that lift can you decide which side you want the hydraulic pump/motor on? i want mine on the opposite of what they show in all the pictures.

It might be. The other post has holes drilled in it like this one. I screwed up and put the arms backwards so I know those can go on reversed. Their manual is in line so you can look through it or call them to be sure.

I might put a 90 bend in the pipe, even an S bend if both ends were fixed. It there was a little travel up or down wouldn't bother.

I’d have to look at a chart, but maybe 14 gauge can handle up to 30A over 6 inches, but you need 12 gauge for 16 feet.

I've been meaning to put in a 20A, should go and do that.

It can likely run on a 14 wire circuit if it's hard wired. If it has a recept the 30 needs a 10 wire. Its not on a 30 cause it needs 30A, the wire is sized for the applied load and for short circuit.
