Back in the 60's & early 70's there used to be ads for this type of splitter that bolted up to the wheel lugs on your car or truck. I never saw one in action just remember the ads. So I would have to say they didn't work too well. JMHO.

The Only Thing I Can Come Up With Is To Use Threaded Black Pipe And

A) Use A Series Of Progressively Smaller Diameters Inside And Welded To The Last.
or
B) Use A Single Large Diameter. Cut A Series Of V's Into The End And Fold Them InTo A Point And Weld.

The Only Issue I See Is The Thread Pitch Of The Pipe Not Being Aggressive enough

I Like B better Or Better Yet, The Wheel Of Death Log Splitter.

Neighbor had one when I was a kid. He somehow got tangled up with. Ended up with broke collar bone and a few broke ribs. He had his mounted on the hub of a ford 8N.

The were deemed quite unsafe if I recall correctly. We burned wood when I was kid. Even at the age of 10, I wanted nothing to do with using these rigs to split wood.

Oilfield "fishermen" use similar tools in pipe recovery. If you call one of the shops they may put you on to a machine shop with some experience in making or repairing them. You may also get lucky and fine they have a damaged one to serve as your core for scrap prices but that would be real luck.

The old wheel mounted ones were known for being dangerous. Looks like the electric ones would be reasonably safe, as long as the operating speed was kept low. You can probably buy the cone - your Youtube vid comments section says they purchased a kit with the cone from eBay.

There are some truly frightening things that have been constructed as log splitter's.

They seem to more popular in Europe.
They have mostly small, straight grain logs.

They seem to have gotten a bad rap in the US do to guys not having the log on the ground securely enough and letting get to spinning.

Do a utube search.
Lots of videos showing it done safely.

I would guess that an electric motor may need to be geared down.
1725 RPM seems a bit fast for my taste.

They still use these a lot around my place in France, they fit on the PTO of a tractor and work very well, my neighbour has one and was splitting both oak, chestnut and pine with it.

This was one of the suggestions given after watching an above video.

Home made, and looks pretty slick. Maybe even a little safer than having it bolted to a hub.

I remember the ads back in the 70' for these things. Usually driven via the PTO shaft of a tractor. I guess they were effective, but they pretty much fell out of favor as they are extremely dangerous!! No quick way to stop the screw if you get clothes or body entangled with screw. Also, no way to "feather" the drive or easily and slowly start the screw into the log ... once it engages, it's gone!

A neighbor bought one long ago, but, for whatever reason, refuses to use it any longer.
