Conex box in the backyard

I am thinking of stuffing a conex box in the backyard for storage. I need more space! The conex box has the appeal of being portable, I do not plan on retiring in this house. We have several of them at work, I am well versed in modifying them for storage or even workshop use. That part doesn't concern me. The part that concerns me is moving one into my backyard. Empty weight is about 4500lbs. I have a side gate 8' 6" wide, so in theory it should fit. Anyone have experience moving one around, in a residential setting (prefer not to rent large equipment $$$)? Also, I live in a suburban neighborhood (No HOA!) - think the city will throw a fit?

Im not in a suburban area, but the guys that moved my 40' could put it anywhere I wanted it.

8'6" is cutting it close, with the trailers that they use there is no overhang, so you are right in theory it will fit.

If you use anything but the specific trailer used to move these you will have difficulty especially with a 6" magin

Everyone might feel a little more comfortable if you could maybe romove the gate.

Any time I need a container moved (locally) its between $200-$250 and a couple of cold sodas

if you put some sort of siding on it, to make it look like a conventional shed it will be less likely to draw attention from the old ladies that have nothing to do but look for things to complain about.

I looked in because I didn't know what 'conex' was, but now I want one or two! I wonder where I'd find one in the CNY area...

How much do they cost for you guys?

I Bought my for $3000, I stored most of my household goods in there while we built our house, so it paid for itself, and now I can keep all my spare parts in thete instead of the shop

Ive moved them a number of ways. If you dont want a semi in the back yard have them drop it on a few 12in diameter round logs, I use old telephone poles cut in 8ft sections. Then push or pull to desired location. Ive used a yamaha rhino to move them so it doesnt take much muscle... A skid loader works the best and makes fast work of the job. we have 6 of them now and plan on getting 2 more.
