Confused by a gutter quote I received

I have a 30x40 pole barn. I want gutters added to the building. I also want to add a snow bar because of where I live.

I got a $900 quote that just said gutters and snow bars. I took that to mean both sides of the building.

Contractor is indicating that the standard for a pole barn is to put gutters and a snow bar on the front of the building where the entrances are. The quote is for the front of the building only.

Anyone know anything about this?

Is this 'so I said ok and he only did one side' situation?

The tense in your post makes this unclear.

If no work has been done, tell him both sides...and get a few more bids.

If the work has been done, tell him he needs to finish the other side...there is no recognized standard of "pole barns only get one side"... How silly

Edit: what exactly did it say? If gutters, plural, that's more than one gutter....

Yeah you definitely want both sides done, or the other side will get water damage.

$900 for one side, 40 feet, seems expensive.

I just had 2 60 foot runs of K5 continuous done on a flip we are doing for $1150.

And previous advice for doing both sides makes sense. No matter where you are, you want to get that rain water away form the building.

Not unheard of, you didn't specify you wanted gutters front & rear and the
contractor went with what he is familiar with.

What size gutters & down spouts were you quoted & did that include at least 3 ft downspout extension(s) per downspout?

Any deciduous trees in the immediate area?

He put up the one snow guard, but no gutters yet. That's when I questioned him about it.

Lol get another quote. $1800 for 60ft of gutters and snow bars is nuts.

Im in snow country. I have almost never seen snow stay on metal roofs. Snow bars on standing seam, glue on jobs nothing stays. Make sure your gutters are well below the snow drop zone even with bars.

I just got off the phone with the guy. He is doing both sides and another snow bar. I'm paying for the material cost of the extra snow bar.

He said that the quote did include both gutters, but only the 1 snow bar (That's not what he said before). I asked him if he thought that made any sense, and he agreed that it didn't. With the snow we get here the gutters wouldn't last 1 season without the snow bar.

When you ask for gutters to be done on a building, I think both sides is pretty much inferred. If it wasn't, you'd say gutters on 'north' side if building only - right?

Yes, there are downspout extensions included.

in northern kailifornia, gutters installed by dedicated gutter installer usually runs about $6.00 a foot and single story downspouts are about 100 each.

with any bid i do, i clearly state where it is going and do not leave it ambiguous. if you told the guy both sides and he acknowledged it then make him stick to both sides. he should of clarified in the bid it was only one side or where the work is to be performed. with you other bids you should ask them to be explicit with their description.

for snow fence, not knowing what type of roof you have, you can go to rockymountainsnowgaurds.com or alpinesnowguards.com for idea on cost for material. if you can or have standing seam then use the S5! type clamp and color guard rail.

My total cost will be ~$1000 for 80 ft of gutters, snow bars, downspouts, and extensions. I got other quotes in the same range. One guy was $1,250.

Most only want a snow bar where snow could slide off a roof and hard people/cars. If its a steep slope I guess it could rip the gutters right off the building.

Unless its a steep slope, we dont really need snow bars around here so I wouldnt mess with them to begin with.

We get 2 ft+ snowfalls here on a regular basis. I've seen the snow come off theat roof. It's an avalanche. Hopefully this will slow it down a little.

I went with the snow bars because the contractor told me if I didn't, the gutters would get torn off. That's why I was confused that he only put it on one side.
