The more expensive one is US General Pro, while the cheaper is just US General. Also, there is no warranty shown for the cheaper one.

And..note the shipping weight on the more expensive one is nearly 20 lbs heavier - something is definitely different between the two.

The one that has 14lbs more shipping weight is the one that has a bunch of reviews. The slightly lighter one has no reviews yet, kind of indicates that it's newer. Also, your store only has the heavier one in stock and not the lighter one yet.

Seems HF shaved some steel off the box during a recent product 'update'.

Maybe the newer box is the one with the smooth finish; whereas the older box had the wrinkled paint finish?

Yes all the new boxes have the smooth finish and a different company is making them from what the manager told me when I was in there.
14 pounds can't be in the paint but the new paid is much lighter and thnner.
Water is over 7 pounds per gallon so it is not the paint. LOL Didn't think it was. LOL Ligher wheels could account for a pound. The only thing is that the seel guage must be lighter on parts but I have both boxes and can't find a differences. I am stumped. I just picked up another box used for $200.
All my sons and grand sons have the 44 inch box and we can't find a differences
We miked the steel and it seems to be the same. They would need to realy leave out supports to make that difference. We pulled the drawers and can't see much of a difference.

I would love to know the difference.

It could be something so simple as them fudging up the numbers all around. Back when they used to sell the black powder coated 44" boxes, the numbers were vastly different from the red powder coated boxes. It's been said before that their numbers are all over the place when it comes to these boxes.

Heck, the shipping weight difference could be how it's packaged or even a typo. I haven't seen any posts showing any differences since the last update of the box. I think the OP will have to consult the company, because we'll probably just all be guessing.

Trying to figure out the current HF is hard enough.

Just go to your local HF with a $359.99 coupon and buy one.

If one wants to wait a bit there will be a parking lot sale first weekend of June, maybe it will be $349.99 then.

I looked at these at two different stores, and I think I know the difference.

The new ones have a positive lock on each drawer, on the right side under the lip. you have to push it in to open the drawer.

I don't recall the finish being any different, but didn't look all that hard. I didn't buy it cuz I had my vette, so the next day I went to the other store that is closer and bought it, fit in my jeep just fine, but got it home and it was the old style. I expected the other, but apparently stores carry one or the other, or they are transitioning. and yes, mine had the aluminum US general name plate, the other, IIRC had the plastic one.

either way nice tool box...

edit: oh and one interesting thing. the keys inside, are the German style that are milled out. thought that was interesting. can't just cut your own anymore. I actually thought it was a spare set of keys for my daughters VW Jetta, and kept asking everyone where they came from and who put them on my toolbox...then I realized they were for the box itself LOL...
