and the reason I am here is that I am helping my friends advertise property that they have for sale in TN.

No, it's not what you think... I'm not here to advertise. Not yet, anyway. :)

The reason I am here is that I was checking the analytics of the site I created for them and there were a lot of hits from garagejournal.com. I must have an angel here...?? (Gosh, I go look for an angel smiley and there are none on this site though you sure do have some creative ones!)

Anyway, hello all! And thank you to whomever has been talking us up!

Blue Skies.....

You are very welcome, Tina.

My avatar is my 1975 International Scout. Basically a sport utility that was built by International Harvester (yep, the tractor and farm equipment people) from 1961 'till 1980. Thanks for inquiring!

Hi Scott,

I'm not a car person, so excuse my ignorance. Is there a relationship between International Harvester and the folk who make Jeeps? Looks an awful lot like my Jeep Cherokee!

Hi Tina,

No relationship between the two except that a Jeep engine was an option on the Scouts for a few years. Please don't feel ignorant. Its great that you are asking questions. No need to apologize for wanting to broaden your knowledge! What year is your Jeep??
I am attaching a couple more pics. of my Scout for you. Hope you enjoy them.
By the way....do you fly?

I do. I own a 1978 Cessna 172 based here in Connecticut. I flew it down to Tennessee to visit my friends who are selling last summer. Great trip for sure!

I also have a 1995 Jeep Cherokee with almost 240,000 miles. I love the thing and wish they didn't stop producing them. I like how they look, but better how they last. I've had relatively few problems with the vehicle, knock wood.

Best,

Tina

The Cherokees like the one that you drive are a vehicle that they could sell new today without a problem. They still had the "Jeep" look and capability about them. Cool that you fly and have your own plane.

Well, I wish they would "Get with it" and produce the Cherokees again.

Of course, they'd mess with it and it wouldn't be the same. Nothing ever is.

Took a ride with an "expert" in my car today. Actually, it was my TN friend who was up for a visit. He told me that there was a problem with the universal joint on the right side. Nice shimmy/shake going on.

What might the consequences be of not addressing that issue?

Hi Tina,

If the joint is going bad, it may lead to excessive bearing wear, tire wear and may wear the axle shaft and seals eventually. Hopefully the joint is ok and your problem is really just a tire that is out of balance. Might not hurt to check the balance on that wheel. Also may not hurt to check the wheel bearings with the amount of miles on your Jeep. If that does not fix the issue, then check into the joint. Either way, its safest to check it soon. Hope the problem is a small, inexpensive one.

Tina, going back to your first post, what kind or property in TN? I mean what kind of website have GJ members been visiting? Anything that will help renovate a garage, tools or equipment to make the work easier. cool stuff that we don't need but just looks so cool in a workshop? Am I getting close...?

BTW, welcome to GJ. I'm new here too and recenly found this intro page...

Me too, Scott. Not that I haven't really made a lot of use out of the vehicle, almost 240,000 miles on it now. But I like the car, I like that it's not a mini-van or a sedan. People usually know it's me when they see me driving down the road. Dunno if that's a good thing OR a bad thing. :headscrat

I'll try to see if I can get the guys in the garage where I work to take a look see during the "down time."

Best,

Tina

Hi Jeff,

My friends own a parcel of land in Bell Buckle, TN... about 30 miles south of Nashville. It's main purpose now, really, is as an airstrip with a large 60X90 attached hangar. But I got to thinking, it doesn't have to be that, it could be a large 60X90 GARAGE.

The runway is turf, so it doesn't really look like an airstrip if you didn't want it to be.

Another home on the property is a large sprawling ranch that has been recently and completely renovated. In-law type area connected by a covered carriageway. But, again, a large 220V workshop in the back.

Prices for different properties are listed on the site plan page of the website I created.

http://tinyurl.com/ownyourdream

It is for sale by owner, and my friends ARE motivated to move back home to Connecticut.

I do remember seeing that thread and dreaming of a huge garage that would fit a few planes. Nice 172 you have. There are a few pilots here on GJ. My dad had a '56 straight-tailed 172 and I had a '49 Navion for a while. My wife has agreed to consider a house on a strip after the twins are out of college and/or we are retired. Till then, I will remodel my garage for woodworking, car restoration and repairs and also equipped to build an RV-7A someday... Or a 10...

Thanks for teh info Tina.

You're welcome, Jeff.

Now to find someone who *is* retired, and whose children are done with college.

We do have a <fingers crossed> solid prospect, I believe. The hubby/pilot sent his wife to visit the property a little while back and she LOVED it. Said as soon as her husband gets back from travel, they'd all be out to look.

If the wife/non-pilot loves it... imagine what the hubby/pilot will think.

Say some prayers, novenas, wishing on shooting stars for us. Please. :fingersx:

no no... it was fingers crossed!! That's what I meant at least...

Quiet Corner, that's Woodstock & Vicinity?

Me, I'm in Ellington, about 15 miles or so NE of Hartford.

Just back from Stonington. Hubby is a sailor guy. Moved his boat from Portland and winter storage back to the home port.

Nice day for it. Windy as heck though!!

I'm sorry, but this is a blatant bump of my post here. I am wishing that someone passing through the board may not have dug down so far as to see this offer. Again, I do apologize.

My friends did have a lovely showing last week. a *second* visit by the same people. A gentleman working overseas in Afghanistan saw the post and had his wive, the non-pilot visit the property on 4/28. (My birthday of all days!)

She and her Mom LOVED the place, and when her husband was home, they were going to come back. Well they did, last Wednesday and left saying that they were going to, "Take a look at the numbers."

I asked my husband, "What do you think that means?" He said, "They're going to make an offer."

But, so far, nothing. ARGH.

Worst argh of all? My friends took no information from the couple. No phone number, no email address, nothing. Of course if they're interested, they will call but darn if it wouldn't be nice if there was a way to contact them.......

okay, this has been a little bit cathartic. For me at least. Again, I apologize for the bump... but I have to keep pushing until they meet with an attorney (or real estate agent) to close the deal.

Blue Skies,

Tina

I was reading that mortgage rates are almost rock bottom low making this property, at $539,000 even more affordable. There is also the potential for some owner financing for the right person.

Here is another link I created, a flyer that helps spread the word. The owner has added a little incentive for others to help spread the word. $1000!!

Really!

Tina,

I still wish my garage woudl be this big... Until then, I keep wishing.

Try posting this under 'General Garage Discussion' with a catchy title and you will see better foot traffic. This 'Intro' section is good for Introductions and welcoming, but not all members pass thru these pages very often. Just a thought...

Good Luck on your quest for success.

Very cool property. When I get older, I want to live on a place like this, runway and all and fill the hangar with a Champ, a 180 skywagon, and maybe a Travel air or Tiger moth. One can dream. :lol_hitti
Good luck with the sale, seems like a great deal.

Thank you, Curt. Sounds as if you have great taste in airplanes! Tailwheel kinda guy, are ya? Good on you!

Not really getting much activity on the property. The market must really be depressed. I know I'm getting that way.............

:(

Hi Tina,

The market is slow everywhere..... I am the assessor for my county. The number of real estate sales that we have had in the last couple years is down sharply. Most notably in lake property and higher end homes. Average homes have also declined in sales volume. They have also seen the greatest dip in value.

Best of luck with the property you are advertising. Take care and keep your hopes up.

I'm trying, Scott. Thanks for the encouragement. Talking with a potential buyer... from Australia! Keep your fingers crossed.

Best,
