I have a breezeway connecting my garage and house. I need to install a 4x4 cedar post underneath this beam and the connectors are going to have to be exposed so I want them to look good.

I liked the Ozco products but my wife thinks they look medieval and does not like them.

Does anyone have any other ideas or products for making the connection?

The beam is 7 1/4" wide.

You sure its a cedar beam? Looks like a "beam" boxed in cedar boards. In which case mortise & tenon is the way to go.

The mortise and tenon looks a little intimidating for my skills. I contacted a welding shop and they make connectors like this. Thank you for the ideas.
