I am ready almost ready to connect 11 low voltage out door lights under the cap of a retaining wall. The connectors that came with the lights just seem like a hillbilly way of connecting these to the main wire. The main wire is a direct burial
type the wire nuts are filled with some sort of goo that is supposed to prevent corrosion. The connections will ultimately be buried in about 8” underground. So my question is are these connections sutible or is there a better way to connect the wires . The smaller diameter wire are the lights

They have better ones - I like these. You wire nut your wires together and then the whole thing goes into the grease caps and then there is a hinged lid that you snaps shut. As you push the wire nut in, some of the grease gets pushed out which then seals the back of the nut. So when your done, the whole wire nut is surrounded in grease

You can get the idea how they work in the 2nd pic

Sprinkler Warehouse sells a bunch of different ones. The "Blazing Waterproof Medium Wire Connector | LV9500" are probably the best ones I have used. They have an O-Ring seal, but they are a little harder to come by (I don't order as much from them as I do Amazon)

The gel filled wire nuts are fine - just bulky.

I've moved to soldering and heat shrink when I can - I hate all those connectors. I coat the connection with GE Silicone and then do the heat shrink over that. Same concept as the gel wire nuts but way less bulky.

The ones from Volt that look like WAGO's with the grease filled cap look interesting though. I may have to try them out.

The general consensus so far is the connectors are fine so I will just use them, the Orbit brand is certainly a better design .
