Hi All;

I went to Home Depot this evening, and saw this compressor for $599 CDN.

I see it on the U.S. HD website for $489.

Any members here have it ? What are your thoughts on it ?

This would be for my home garage, it will see occasional use. Some 1/2" impact for tire changes, brake jobs; inflating tires, some light HVLP, die grinder, air sander, air hammer... never any rush work...consider it DIY hobbyist home use.

I know the pump is offshore, probably China or India.

How would this one compare to the 60g model from HF ? Motor HP and CFM are slightly higher for the HF. Price is a lot higher ($799 US)

Lowes has one that looks very similar...same specs...$799 CDN. Customer reviews on the Lowes offering seem very good.

Here are some pics of the one I saw at HD:

Thanks !

Do you know who makes it for HD ? I would call that toll free number that's in the photo to see who actually makes it. My buddy bought one of the earlier red Husky compressors and it looked exactly like the CH that I had. When he called the number on the paperwork it was CH.

If you read the first review on that Kobalt it says its made by Campbell Hausfeld. Its probably the same one that HD is selling, just labeled Husky.

i have that same one, have had it for maybe 3 years with no issues. I put a different muffled intake to help quiet it down and its been super nice. but yea i think i paid 500ish for mine.

might be impossible in your price range, but a unit with a motor RPM of 1725-1755 will be MUCH quieter and last much longer!

PS - regardless of what you buy, dump the initial fill of cheap Chinese pump oil and get something better in there, even if it is just a good name brand synthetic 5W-30 for a car.

I have the older overrated version of that. USA pump. Bought it for $250 used. Canadian. Don't rule out a used one...

I have the 60 Gallon Husky and it's great for my needs which are what the OP listed. If you check out Home Depots with Tool Rental, they take returns from multiple stores and fix whatever issue the original buyer had and put it out as refurb. I got mine for $350 US at the store. I spoke to the service department guy that fixed it and he said a small part was missing, so there wasn't anything wrong with it to fix besides ordering the part.

Paranoid, which intake did you put on it? I'm not sure how those are measured. The one drawback is that it is loud. Not loud like it'll hurt my ears, but tough to have a conversation across the shop while it's on. I'm considering putting it outside once I can cover it. Edit: I just looked them up and it just seems like a 1/2, 3/4, or 1" fitting. Seems pretty straight forward. At least more straight forward than I figured.

That looks like a CH sourced unit, and typically all the Husky compressors have been, but I can't verify it. The model number doesn't come up in CH's system, and all the CH's I've seen have a brand name motor.
Still could be CH, probably is, but I'm not positive.

CH is a great company to deal with. and I've had my CH unit which is very similar to this for over 20 years now. It has asked for nothing but an occasional oil change all these years and has always performed admirably. Do I wish I had a bigger compressor? Sure. But it does the job.

I have a Husky compressor, but it's not that specific model. I've had it for several years, never a problem. The pump was actually made in the US.

The picture of the one you attached also looks like it's at least part made in the US, it has a Made in USA flag on the bottom.:dunno:

I would definitely go with a Husky compressor over Harbor Freight assuming the price is close.

I think you'd be quite happy with it and it would probably last a long time with the usage you describe. Run it for about 20 minutes with the drain valve open (so pressure can't build), turn it off, and then change the oil for a good synthetic and you'll be off to a good start.

I tend to research things to death and decided on a Puma PK6060V that I'm happy with, but it's all dependent on what you can find at a good price where you are.

Please note: Opinions vary widely about break-in procedures, when to switch to synthetic oil, which synthetic oils are best, etc. If you have doubts, call the manufacturer. If they tell you something different than what anyone on the Internet, including me, tells you, then go with what they say.
