Here's a thought...

In each of the Garage Journal Forum categories, such as Lighting/Electrical, General Garage, etc. we have had many threads full of expertise.

And we seem to answer the same series of questions with the same series of answers.

How about developing a sticky for each category that contains a summary of the main points.

For instance, in lighting and electrical we could give advice on running service to a detached garage and also on how to size that service as well as determining lighting levels and layout.

In the general garage section we could have stickies on how to find a contractor, how to do an estimate, how to develop a design etc.

Same with individual trades like concrete, plumping, roofing etc.

The combined knowledge on here is awesome.

??? What say you?

I wiuld love to go a week without a multimeter thread. Maybe use the stickies as a table of contents to threads. Like a Socket sticky and links in the threads to information about different brands.

Honestly though i think members on here like answering questions even though they come up often. The problem I see is most of the active members on this forum have alot of knowledge and it is just difficult to consolidate it to a single answer that the consensus agrees upon, like coo, brand, other contentious discussions.

Agreed.

Unless you are going to become a reference library for the most popular topics (lifts, trusses, drywall, etc.), I'm not sure the flags would be more helpful than searching. :dunno:

While it's often covering much of the same ground, there are always unique twists and variations in each design/application. And different knowledge levels for OPs, that "live" discussion in a thread helps with, where reading old posts does not.

Glad we can agree on the constant disagreements. Dave brings up the great point that a forum is a discussion place and active threads in my opinion help the op more than a old thread where out of 150 posts there may be 3 posts that really help them. YMMV but when I'm in need of info I would rather ask than look up.
