So I have to replace a temperamental constant duty solenoid in my RV. The replacement unit I had in there before decided to start sticking open (Cheap Chinese ****) so I went out and bought a Cole Hersee 24213 200A continuous duty solenoid. I decided to bench test it and it seems to get much hotter than I'd like although it seems it's w/in specs. I am applying 12V to it w/ no current passing through the contactor and it's getting to about 120F on the top and 100 on the bottom. Operating temp is -49F to 185F so I'm good but the other two solenoids (original and cheap Chinese replacement) never got this hot. In all fairness this does bolt directly to a sheet metal box so it's possible it is sinking a bunch of the heat away while in situ but hot electronics are never happy electronics and I don't need this failing thousands of miles away from home. Any opinions on this? I'm going to let it sit on the bench for at least another 12 hours in the morning when I'm awake in case it goes thermo-nuclear but I'm curious on opinions.
