Well I've waited a life time to build my own shop and It's finally under way! I'm not sure how fast it will happen but hopefully I'll be in it before the snow flies . I just broke ground and did a lil clearing and grubbing , cutting and filling . It's finally stopped raining after about 2 weeks or so and is starting to dry out. After stripping off the sod the dirt is still soft so I'm going to give it a day or two of hot sun on the bare dirt to try to let it dry a bit more before adding base rock.
The size is 44 x 60 x 10. It will have a two car garage with 9 x10 doors on one end and 9 x 10 on the other. The end walls ( 44') will have the doors and there will be a wall to divide the garage from the shop. There will be one maybe two walk thru doors, I haven't totally decided on that yet. 4 windows and roofing and siding to match the house.
I'm planning on stick framing the side walls and setting trusses with a 6/12 pitch. HVAC ...heat pump! Tankless water heater , 220v 200 amp service. Floor drains, poured concrete , slick finish floor, 5/8 sheet rock, copper plumbing , galvanized pipe for compressed air supply...
Any and all advise is welcome as are any ideas!

Your plans sounds very good. Be very sure to use lots of rebar in the slab and footings, don't skimp. Always remember that code is the minimum standard. Use at least a six bag mix for the concrete and to use a good curing agent while drying, you'll be happy you did.

Good advice from the CyberBear. I would beg, borrow, or buy a rotary laser level. Its easy to get the subgrade (crushed stone) to an incorrect level in a large slab, thus affecting the thickness of concrete. 4" minimum.

I also like to use a vapor barrier, 6mil min, 10mil much better. Have your finishers snap lines and cut the control joints 10-12ft squares the next morning after the pour.

I can't totally tell on your house but hopefully its vinyl or a maintenance-free siding. It would drive me nuts to have to go out and paint the shop every couple of years.

No footing on the building . It's going to be a floating slab. 5000lb mix coated with "cure n seal" As for rebar, 1/4" mesh with a 3 bar ring of #5 bar on 8" centers in the 12" thickened edge. Also a thickened 12" beam where the divider wall goes. dividing the building into 30x44. This beam will be 2' wide

The slab will have 12" thickened edges and 5" every where else. we use a sof-cut saw and can saw the same day . It's the best. The sooner you can saw the better!
Vinyl all the way! Foam backed!

Top: i'm heading out the door, but wanted to subscribe to your build thread so i'll be able to remember to read it later.

one reason i missed your thread is it isn't with the rest of the garage build threads in Garage Gallery where it might get more views and comments if you ask the MODS to change it i'm sure it would do better over there.

good luck

Top: like i mentioned in my last post that you might not have seen this section doesn't get nearly as many EYES ON IT as the Garage gallery section does. just take a peek over there and see that some threads have millions of hits on them and at least a few thousand if a thread even with only a few pictures. so i'd PM a MOD and ask them to move your thread over there or if you want to start over then just start a new thread with a new name if you like Vise Heaven in the Midwest in my 40x60x10 or something catchy like that.

as far as your size you can always assume everybody here would want to build as big as possible, but if you are planning on putting a lift in some lifts require 12.2 foot ceiling height to get full clearance. if you are using a shorter lift or not planning on one then 10 foot should be fine and I'd love a 2400 square foot shop or even one half that size.

ask questions if you have any and always take more pictures than you think you want to because when you have time to post them they might help you while we are gazing at your progress.

GOOD LUCK
