Construction guys-help a newb?

Im looking at some options for my shop--they will be pouring the foundation soon and I have to make some quick decisions.

I am going to have attic trusses with a storage room----I will need to build stairs to get to the attic. My concern is, the trusses are planned to be 16" OC. Obviously, this isnt enough room to allow for stairs--what would be the preferred method of installing stairs? I kind of envision a loft style setup where the stairs would go up to a landing--the ceiling would be higher ( vaulted ) on one end and then the attic room would start where the stairs land. The building is 32' x48'--I guess I may need to consult a structural engineer to determine if a vaulted ceiling truss style is even an option with a 32' free span.

Plumbing--I want a bathroom later--do I need to lay the plumbing now before I do the foundation? Or could I do that later without digging up the foundation?

Wood truss: Talk to the truss manufacture, they can work with you and give you the options on stairs.

Bathroom. If you want a toilet you will end up having to "lift" it high enough to drain to your septic line. You can use a pump also but again if you do not want to dig up concrete you will need to lift the toilet. Doubt you are going to want a toilet on a pedestal.

One truss at the end of the run could be headed off, but that will give you only 30+ inches of opening. The truss company can make the shortened truss.

Why 16 OC? That's a lot of trusses.

Bottom line is this, anything you do must past inspection. To get past inspection, you'll need engineering on the trusses.

Any aspect of truss design has to be part of the truss plan signed by the engineer.

Deal with the design with your truss company

If you haven't had the trusses designed for your stairs already, you have a lot of work to do. . .our just go with outside stairs. If you still decide you want inside steps, you better get some engineering done because you're going to have to cut up a couple trusses.
