Do any of you regularly read construction-related magazines or trade journals?

What's good? What's bad?

I'm just a diy guy, so I don't always have access to "trade-level" knowledge. Nevertheless, I appreciate quality information.

I currently subscribe to Fine Homebuilding. I like it for the quality content: detailed construction diagrams, materials discussions, and tool reviews that are about as honest as they can be in a magazine that has to keep advertisers happy.

I was once given a gift-subscription to This Old House. I could barely stomach reading it. It was mostly about making things look pretty, not about building.

This question came to mind because I just received a subscription solicitation for JLC, aka The Journal of Light Construction. It looks like it could be interesting, but I had never heard of it previously.

Used to get JLC many, many years ago when it was more of a news paper Fine Homebuilding I've kept up for probably twenty years. Never found anything better. You have to take some of it with a grain of salt. It helps keep me current on what's new. Tool reviews are usually pretty good too.
