Contactor for compressor

Now that I've moved my compressor to an outside shed, it's much quieter in the shop. But, as it's less accessible, it's harder to remember to go around and shut off the air and the power.

I'm thinking of using a light switch to control a motor contactor and a solenoid. I've found this http://controlscentral.com/Portals/0/data_sheets/MARS_780_4_MARS_SERIES614.pdf

leading to this http://controlscentral.com/eCatalog...er=MARS+-+Motors+&+Armatures,+Inc.&ViewType=2

Dos their part 61426 look like it will work - in a proper enclosure, of course!

I have an old ASCO valve to shut the air off. 120V coil. I can't imagine why that wouldn't work in parallel with the contactor.

Crazy idea here...just throw the breaker-done
or if you really want a switch, just get a industrial lever type switch and put it inline.

Wire runs across the ceiling...not too convenient. :willy_nil

I'd rather throw a switch by the door than have to open the panel - I did that in the past for my old compressor, and it got old. May not be good for the breaker? You certainly wouldn't want to switch it under load.

But, thanks for thinking!

Oops.

3.7 HP, 240V.

Looks like 61441 might be a better option.

Yes, i would go with 61441 because 61426 is only rated upto 3hp.

And yes, the valve can be parralleled with the contactor. Neutral goes to one side of the valve and one side of the coil on the contactor. Switched hot leg goes to other side of valve and coil!

This will eventually wear out the breaker. Im guessing the OP would rather replace a worn out switch than a worn out breaker!
