I have a cheap small one (4") that comes in handy on occasion. I used it just the other day to get the profile of a sailboat mast that I made a set of mast gates for.

I have a handful of them in varying lengthes that i use for sheet metal work and recreating replacement pieces. Come in handy and would be harder to do alot of stuff without them. Mine are all metal, ive never tried the plastic ones

I have the General one pictured in the Amazon link. I haven't used it but once or twice since retiring, but used it extensively when working 25 years in a custon millwork shop. It can be very handy when you need to duplicate profiles.
