Good news, so far. I sent a picture to the boss and he said he was sorry and would replace it. At this point it seems ok. I told him that there were two like that, the other two are centered but not a nice job, no trowel used. I don't really trust these. Not certain that the air was taken out since its such an amateur's job.
Should work out. Moral of the story, check your employee...

Could be just a small thing but this is one of the reason I rarely contract stuff out. I am not in the construction business. I do a lot of stuff myself. I check building codes, make sure i do it right. It's so easy to make a mistake. I don't want to be looking over the shoulder of the guys working, might have to... Or at least the boss should.

The top of the piers can be ground to correct the appearance and put a pitch on them, so no big deal. I'd be more concerned about the post center-lines. Make sure they are correct, make him verify the layout and witness.

"Concrete:
. . . . . . Measure Three, Four or even FIVE times, then dig and set forms."
Would not help, even if he measured 10 times.

This is a test by the contractor, if he gets away with this, wait to you see the final results. You have reasonable cause to nullify the contract and get another contractor.

WOW ! :yikes: How did you find this contractor ? Is that concrete spill around the tube ? The tube doesn't even look like it was cut square either not to mention the unfinished top. I would stop them now and ask the owner for references of where he has done something similar and check with those customers.
I bet none of those tube are even set to the same elevation and a laser was not used. This must have been the cheapest bid. GOOD LUCK !

Light up a cigarette in front of the contractor, slowly exhale, and then flick the cigarette off his forehead.

Back in 2001 we were adding a deck off the back of the house. I had access to machinery to do the piers so I offered to do them. That was a mistake . . .

I brought in a Bobcat with an auger and started making holes. When I was done you couldn't get a taut string line to even hit all 4 piers at the same time, never mind be nicely centered on the pier. I have in progress pics of me in the machine and my neighbor watching, but not one of the string line test. I had to go get a backhoe and fix the holes so they lined up nice and straight. It's funny now but it was a long day back in 2001 getting it done.

My contractor buddy who was building the deck was happy with the pier setup (he filled them with concrete after he confirmed all the measurements) and we have enjoyed the deck ever since. I got a funny story out of it too!

Cheers

did the actual contractor do this or one of his employees, i see my guys do stupid things all the time to save 15 secs. I just shake my head apologize and proceed to fix, not as big a deal as some here make it out to be. sona tube and couple bags of pre mix about 20 mins to fix. now if the actual contractor did it, well then you got issues.

LOL..that's funny

Btw, not my first option but the bracket could be cut off. Drill a hole where it needs to go and once it's cured enough embed a new one in rated epoxy.

Cut it off with a torch. Buy a new bracket with the rebar welded to it. Hammer drill a hole where it needs to go, insert epoxy, insert new bracket.

My assumption is that the bracket IS where it needs to go and the sonotube full of wet concrete wasn't placed where it needs to be.

Even tho he said he'd make it right, I'd still be really concerned to have him or his employees continue on this. I assume by "making it right" he's going to pull the 4' of concrete out of each one of those splitters, er, footers, recompact the soil tight, and start from scratch.

I don't have the time or patience to watch a contractor "make good" on a major f***-up like this that should never have happened in the first place. It's nice he wants to "fix" it (and that's not an easy task), but I'll put it this way - If this is the quality of the people he employs, and the work his employees do... I'm not a baseball umpire, but I'd tell that contractor once he pulls his mess out of the ground "Steerike Three, yer outta there."

I sure hope things go well for you.

We did a better job than that when I was in High School when my best friend's Stepfather decided to add a deck to the house. None of us had ever done it before. 12 footings. All plumb, level and the brackets centered. That deck is still flat as new.
